Explorations in Arts & Social Sciences
Explorations is an interdisciplinary two semester cohort program offered at SFU Surrey that explores a wide range of ideas and issues in the Arts and Social Sciences. Explorations introduces first-year students to a number of academic disciplines such as geography, sociology, political science, literature, the creative arts, and cultural studies.
Is Explorations for you?
Explorations is for first-year students making the transition to university. As a cohort program, Explorations allows students to take the same courses together in small classes and participate in a learning community. It is for students who want guaranteed access to core courses, more contact with professors, and priority registration in all courses offered by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at SFU Surrey.
Explorations is also for students who want to sample different disciplines and build their academic skills before committing to a specific degree program.
Areas of Study
Explorations offers courses in a wide range of disciplines. Each course is interdisciplinary, combining areas such as Economics, History, and Political Science; or Humanities, English, and Film Studies.
Students in Explorations may choose either the Certificate or the Elective stream, and they can take courses from all three SFU campuses. Students also have the opportunity to participate in student associations and gain job experience in Co-op program placements.
