First Nations Studies


 

The First Nations Studies program at Simon Fraser University has been granted department status effective April 1, 2012.

New Certificate in Liberal Arts Requirements

Starting in May 2012, new completion requirements will come into effect for the Certificate in Liberal Arts (CLA). Students (in any Faculty) will complete the same number of courses and units as before for this popular certificate, but with greater ease in choosing the courses (fewer sets, less guesswork). FASS Research

National Aging Study Begins at SFU Surrey

A new lab at Simon Fraser University’s Surrey campus will play a key role beginning this spring in an exhaustive study of aging in Canada.

The Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA), the most comprehensive study of its kind in Canada, will follow 50,000 Canadians over the next 20 years, including 8,500 men and women in B.C. – 1,500 of them, within a 25 km radius of SFU Surrey.

Yes, We Speak German

Students Maggie Chow, Katie Hearn, Whitney Szabo, Alannah St. Pierre, Sarah Brett, Lena Brockhoff and Michael Poon

In a Canadian first, seven SFU students who have studied German for five semesters through SFU’s Language Training Institute (LTI) all passed the Zertifikat Deutsch, an internationally recognized exam of German language ability.

FASS Alumnus Derek Milloy Honoured at Concert for Caregiving

One of the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band’s most stalwart pipers was honoured for receiving a national caregiver award during the band’s 30th anniversary concert in Vancouver on April 15.

Derek Milloy, who has competed with the band at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow 23 times, has been recognized by the Canadian MS Society with the Opal Award for Caregiver.
